The pictures below are taken in order (basically) as I drove to the peak and then back down, except while at the top.  The time was about 3pm on Saturday, 1/27/07 and the temps were in the 50s, though notice the snow still lingering around the top.  For more information on Kitt Peak, click here.  The tour consists of two pages, so hit the continue link at the bottom of the page.  Also, click the picture to see a screen sized larger version-approximately 250k.

A few miles past the gate on HWY 386, heading south/southwest.

Another couple of miles, looking out the back as you would be going down.

Up the mountain we go.

We're getting close to the top now.

There's a pulloff here for people like me to stop and take a picture.

Another pulloff for a closer view.

We're at the top now, the parking lot is off to the left, and no charge for admission.  They would like a couple of donated bucks though, and it's well worth it.  The previous seven shots were taken with the D40.

Here's the visitors center which is very informative, you can even use their 16" telescope at night (with a reservation)-silver dome off to the close left.  While you're here don't forget to pick up your souvenirs at the well stocked gift shop.  There's some nice Indian baskets etc from the Tohono O' Odham, since Kitt peak is located on the reservation.  This shot and the two below were taken with the Sony a100 and 11-18mm lens at ISO 400.  Look at the noise in the blue sky, 400 is pushing it with the a100.

Gift shop scene.  Nice weaved baskets.  You can pick up your requisite t-shirts and post cards too.

This is the visitor center main area, with the gift shop behind you.  This is exactly where I was when the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded on January 28th, 1986.
